INSTRUCTIONAL COACH (Two Vacancies) NIGHT PROGRAM

Purpose of position

The position of Instructional Coach is essential for the daily functioning of the ABE, GED and ESL programs at The Next Step PCS.  The primary duties of the Instructional Coach are to guide, develop and support teachers so that they are able to faithfully design and deliver curricula that is aligned with school goals, while promoting differentiation so that every student is able to achieve his or her own individualized learning objectives. Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education or related field (K-12 preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Three-to-five years of experience as lead teacher in adult education or high school setting
  • Minimum of two years working specifically with multicultural/multilingual populations
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English with outstanding written and verbal skills in both languages

Essential Skills (including technical skills) and Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of best practices in curriculum design, instructional methods (pedagogy and andragogy), and classroom management skills in the context of multicultural and multilingual settings
  • Familiarity with standardized educational assessments used in adult education such as the GED exam, TABE, TABE CLAS-E, ACCESS and W-APT
  • Ample experience designing and delivering professional development activities
  • Ability to collect and use data to drive instruction as well as to inform school-wide initiatives
  • Ability to effectively research, identify and secure instructional materials and resources to enhance the quality of instruction across multiple subjects and levels
  • Ability to demonstrate effective ways to infuse literacy and life skills across the curriculum
  • Ability to model effective use of technology for administrative and instructional purposes
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet internal and external deadlines
  • Ability to effectively track data, maintain records and produce reports related to curriculum and instruction in a variety of formats for various audiences

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Play a leading role in the fulfillment of the school’s mission and goals as related to one of its main educational tracks – Spanish ABE-GED, English ABE-GED, or ESL
  • Work closely with the CIC to ensure the development of a school-wide curriculum that is aligned with Common Core, GED, TABE and/or CLAS-E standards and objectives as determined by assigned track
  • Work closely with the Assessments team to review student performance data and recommend priority areas for each subject and level on assigned track
  • Work closely with teachers to ensure understanding of class profiles so that whole-class and individual academic goals are established at the beginning of each semester
  • Collect, review and comment on curriculum documents (syllabus, scope & sequence, weekly lesson plans) to guide teachers toward a logically sequenced, well-paced and relevant content throughout the semester and school year
  • Provide teachers with on-going feedback on instructional and classroom management practices via regularly scheduled informal observations and individualized check-ins
  • Model best practices during coaching conversations and in the classroom on target areas as agreed upon between individual teachers and the instructional coach and/or as approved or assigned by the Principal or CIC
  • Provide individualized professional development on topics agreed upon by individual teachers and Instructional Coach and/or as approved or assigned by the Principal or CIC
  • Provide school-wide professional development activities on topics identified by members of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and as assigned by the Principal or CIC
  • Co-manage and train teachers on technology-based programs for the classroom (including but not limited to Schoology, Achieve3000, Reading Horizons, GED Prep, Interactive Whiteboards and related applications)
  • With approval of CIC, order and monitor maintenance of all classroom materials, textbooks, and technology-based needs for assigned group of teachers
  • Support teachers in meeting their yearly/semi-annual professional development goals by observing classes regularly and giving constructive coaching feedback
  • Support new teachers in adapting to the school culture and delivering quality instruction
  • Assist Principal and CIC with screening, hiring, on-boarding, and training of new teachers, teacher assistants, and substitute teachers
  • Report on departmental needs/activities/progress during weekly staff meetings, instructional leadership team meetings and as requested by members of the management team
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Participate in assessment administration as needed throughout the school year
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, school assemblies and any other meetings assigned in relation to the position 
  • Maintain organized, clean, and inviting work area

Supervision and evaluation

This position will work closely with the instructional leadership team, which includes the Principals, the Coordinators for Curriculum and Instruction (CIC), and three other Instructional Coaches. Instructional Coaches will be supervised and evaluated by the CIC for Night School.
