Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Tuesday and Thursday

Purpose of position

The Resource and Enrichment Coordinator is critical to the success of The Next Step Public Charter School and its Career and Life Skills department. The purpose of the Resource and Enrichment Coordinator is to serve as the point of contact for all college and career partnerships, connect college and career readiness advisors and students with resources to develop and maintain skills to gain independence and successfully manage postsecondary responsibilities and daily living tasks and to collaborate with Student Support Services (SSS) and college and career advisors for department events. 

The individual in this role will execute these duties in a way that 1. embraces the identities of all students attending The Next Step PCS, 2. Is engaging and interactive. 

The primary responsibility of the coordinator is to coordinate the delivery of services that expand upon college and career and SSS services already provided at The Next Step. This position requires significant interaction with the general public, such as community groups, targeted organizations, consultants, higher education institutions, vocational programs, scholarships organizations, etc.

As the main point of contact, the Resource and Enrichment Coordinator will initiate and facilitate communication and linkage with community resources to the school community. In collaboration with the college and career readiness advisors and the SSS team, the Resource and Enrichment Coordinator will schedule department events. The Resource and Enrichment Coordinator will also manage the storage of all resource contacts while working with the data analyst to build sustainable systems for contact storage. Further, the Resource and Enrichment Coordinator will manage the Career and Life Skills department’s social media presence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have 2 years or more experience in working with opportunity youth, having a knowledge-base of young adult focused resources in Washington, DC is a plus.

  • Must have an understanding of adolescent and young adult development as it relates to independence, self-sufficiency and career options.
  • Must be aware of relevant social matters that directly impact TNS students and embrace ethnic and cultural differences.
  • Must be able to advocate for students while, at times, navigating bureaucratic issues with agencies.
  • Must be innovative and comfortable with trying new ways of working professionally.
  • Must be able to take a lead role and initiative on a regular basis.
  • Must be motivated to work as a member of various, multi-disciplinary teams, and be open to accepting input from a variety of professionals when appropriate.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt quickly to programming shifts that may occur based on informal and formal feedback.
  • Must have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have fluency with software, hardware, basic office equipment, and online programs used to track and maintain student data.
  • Must be bilingual (Spanish and English).
  • Must be comfortable speaking to students and/or staff in large groups and one-on-one.
  • Must be able to multitask several projects at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships, and professional boundaries and stature.
  • Seek out, mobilize and maintain relationships with various community agencies for students.
  • Maintain partnerships’ contact information in a way that is organized and accessible while also working with the data analyst for sustainable maintenance.
  • Follow-up on multi-agency services to determine relevance for The Next Step PCS community.
  • Participate as a member of the Career and Life Skills team and other school-based teams, when appropriate, to promote student interest programs/activities.
  • Facilitate communication between the partnerships and The Next Step Community.
  • Regularly collaborate with teachers, staff, community members and parents and assesses students to determine ongoing student academic needs, career interests and life skills needs for new partnerships.
  • Maintain department social media pages by publicizing all events and opportunities within an appropriate timeframe and response to interested replies.
  • Maintain department event pictures.
  • Seek partnerships with community agencies, vocational organizations and higher education institutions and coordinate activities and programs that complement the department and school curriculum.
  • Organize SSS and college and career events on and off-site.
  • Assist college and career readiness advisors in matching students/alumni with available and appropriate resources.
  • Assist with tracking exiting student employment and post-secondary placement for PMF.
  • Serves on the graduation committee.
  • Provide program details (as needed) to Career and Life Skills Director for monthly reports.
  • Attend professional development provided by the school or approved by Career and Life Skills Director.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned.

  • Participate actively in school responsibilities such as hallway and lunch supervision.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues to develop and implement effective and relevant policies and programs.
  • Adhere to school policies as described in personnel manual and/or staff handbook and department handbook.
  • Reflect upon performance, set goals for improvement, and take advantage of training opportunities to learn and implement effective strategies.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and inviting work area.
