SUBJECT: Off-Campus Incident

Shortly after noon today, an incident off-campus required the response of Emergency Medical Teams, including Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The situation involved a student of The Next Step who had already departed from the school. When the incident occurred, the student returned to The Next Step and our front desk staff and security offered immediate support to the student. We take this opportunity to acknowledge that the safety of our students is our number one priority.

As a precaution and in response to Police investigation, The Next Step staff exited students out of the building and the decision was made to cancel the remaining classes for the afternoon. At approximately 3 p.m., MPD provided an all-clear and classes resumed their usual schedule. TNS Security will remain to provide additional support for screening visitors, students and staff arriving for Night School.

We wish to thank MPD for their quick response and assistance during one of the busiest times of our day, and to students, parents, staff, and others—for their patience. Again, we emphasize that our primary concern is always for the safety of our students and staff.
